About Montgomery, Texas
Montgomery, Texas, is a special, historic place. It was founded in 1837 in the middle of the Lake Creek Settlement by W.W. Shepperd. Shepperd established the first store in the Lake Creek Settlement in 1835. The town was named “Montgomery” by Shepperd, who had previously lived in Montgomery County, Alabama.
While Montgomery is widely known as the “Birthplace of the Texas Flag,” it is so much more than that! Set in the beautiful rolling terrain of western Montgomery County, it offers something for everyone with tree lined streets, historic parks, antique shopping, delicious restaurants, and well-planned subdivisions.
